KEEPER Project concludes with an industrially validated anti-counterfeiting solution

After three years of research, development and industrial validation, the EU-funded KEEPER project has successfully concluded, delivering an integrated anti-counterfeiting solution designed to protect products and identities across different industrial applications.

Officially completed on 31 August 2026, KEEPER set out to address a key challenge: developing a security technology that would be extremely difficult to replicate, adaptable to different products and compatible with existing manufacturing processes.

To achieve this objective, the project partners combined expertise in materials science, optical analysis, manufacturing, software development and business exploitation.

At the heart of the solution are nano-engineered security inks, integrated with printing processes, dedicated verification tools and software. Throughout the project, these components were progressively developed, tested and refined, resulting in a complete security system capable of being implemented in real production environments.

A major milestone was the industrial validation of the technology, which demonstrated its applicability to different use cases, including identity cards and electronic boards. These activities helped bridge the gap between laboratory research and practical industrial deployment, providing valuable insights into the solution’s performance and potential for market adoption.

The project brought together five partners with complementary expertise: Politecnico di Milano (Department of Energy), CNRS, Variuscard, Enigma and Day One. Their collaboration was instrumental in transforming an ambitious research concept into an integrated technology with concrete opportunities for future exploitation.

Although the funded project has now officially ended, its results represent a starting point for further development and commercialization. The knowledge, technologies and industrial experience generated by KEEPER provide a foundation for bringing innovative anti-counterfeiting solutions closer to the market.
